You know, for as much complaining as some people do about some Harley owners being closed-minded about anyone who doesn't ride a Harley, it sure seems that lots of people here get riled up once the word "Harley" is mentioned. And another thing, it sure seems like a lot of people are always trying to figure out ways to make more and more Harley parts fit on our bikes. Doesn't that indicate a certain fondness for Harleys? I won't lie, if I had more money, I'd own one, and it's not because I want to be part of their "club." In the 6 years I've owned my Road*, I've ridden in a group setting maybe 5 times. I bet I'd be the same way if I had a Harley. I got a bike because it was a hobby I could enjoy by myself. They are just motorcycles. They all mean something special to the person who owns it.

Exactly!!!!
Guys, stop hating on Harley's. It's just a company that makes bikes. Some people like Roadstars and some people like Harley's. We're getting away from what really matters--life on the road. If anything happens to my bike, I might consider buying a Harley--they're great bikes with a great heritage. And, they hold their financial values much better than Roadstars. You ain't gonna get squat for your bike if you try to see it.

Guys, it's not that serious, it's just a motorcycle.

That's because there are way more options out there for Harleys just due to number of bikes. Aftermarket driven by volume.

Speaking from experience I would have to agree. My last two Harleys I sold for above book value. But I think that could hold true for any bike if you found the right buyer. The problem is you have to be able to find the right person looking for exactly what you have. I believe the "value is in the eyes of the beholder" - so to speak. With this economy it would only make things more difficult, but not impossible. I won't be finding out if this will hold true with my R* because I don't plan on selling it anytime soon.

anyone who buys a bike based on its resale value is buying a bike for the wrong reasons.

I like 'em all. Some more than others.

I plan on driving this R* until I can't afford to fix it.

If I win the lottery, however, there WILL be a brand new BMW K1600GTL. OMG what a bike.

And it WILL be parked right next to my R* in the garage!
